Our Story

About Us

A developing group dedicated to the exploration of analytical psychology and the Jungian tradition in Bangalore.

Our Mission

Why we exist

The Society exists to promote the understanding and application of C.G. Jung's Analytical Psychology in India — a bridge between the global Jungian community and the growing interest in depth psychology across South Asia.

We believe the exploration of the unconscious — through dreams, symbols, active imagination, and the individuation process — offers a profound path toward psychological wholeness and a more conscious, meaningful life. Our work is relevant to clinicians, educators, artists, seekers, and anyone drawn to the deeper layers of human experience.

"Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes." C.G. Jung

History & Purpose

Our origins & development

BSAP was founded by a small group of psychotherapists, counsellors, and Jungian enthusiasts in Bangalore who recognised the need for a local community oriented around depth psychology. What began as informal reading circles has grown into an affiliated developing group of the IAAP.

Our journey mirrors the Jungian concept of individuation — a gradual process of becoming more fully who we are, integrating diverse influences into a coherent whole. As a developing group, we are on a path toward full IAAP membership.

We draw on the rich tradition of Jungian analysis while remaining attentive to the specific cultural and psychological landscape of India — exploring how the archetypes, symbols, and mythologies of this ancient civilisation intersect with universal patterns of the collective unconscious.

Methodology

Our approach

Several core commitments guide all of our programmes and activities.

1

Depth over breadth

We prioritise sustained, serious engagement with Jungian concepts rather than surface-level introductions, creating space for genuine psychological exploration.

2

Community & dialogue

Knowledge deepens through relationship. We cultivate a space where clinical, philosophical, artistic, and personal perspectives can meet and enrich one another.

3

Rigour & lived experience

We balance careful study of primary texts with attention to how these ideas manifest in actual psychological life — in dreams, symptoms, relationships, and creativity.

4

Cultural rootedness

We honour India's extraordinary symbolic and mythological heritage as a living resource for depth psychological exploration, in conversation with the Jungian tradition.

5

Ethical practice

We uphold the ethical standards of the IAAP and are committed to responsible, professional conduct in all our activities and relationships.
